About Greater Manchester Education Trust

Greater Manchester Education Trust was established in 2022 following the successful merger of two local multi-academy trusts. We currently oversee four academies and two sixth form colleges, working in some of the most academically, socially, and ethnically diverse communities in the region.

Our mission is to provide outstanding education for every child, ensuring they thrive both academically and personally. Beyond academic achievement, we prioritise care, wellbeing, and a wide range of enriching opportunities, allowing our students to discover their talents and broaden their horizons.

We extend this commitment to our staff too — offering tailored professional development, opportunities to innovate, collaborate, and advance their careers, all within a supportive and ambitious environment.

Our work is guided by a clear set of core values, placing young people, colleagues, families, and communities at the heart of everything we do.

About the Role

As we continue to grow and strengthen our Trust Board, we are particularly keen to appoint new Trustees with strong and relevant expertise in areas of leadership, business, educational improvement, finance and operations, capital and estates, safeguarding, care and welfare. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful difference, using your skills to provide strategic oversight and help ensure our Trust meets its charitable aims.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Offering strategic guidance and support to the Trust’s leadership
  • Analysing complex educational, social, financial and operational information to inform decision-making
  • Contributing to effective risk management and financial governance
  • Helping to shape and monitor the Trust’s strategy, priorities and impact

Time Commitment

Trustees should be able to commit around 3-4 hours per month on average encompassed within the Trust’s annual calendar of business, which includes:

  • 1 full-day, in-person Board Strategy Development session (annually)
  • 5 Board meetings per year (2 hours each, held in person)
  • 3–4 Committee meetings per year (1.5 hours each, held remotely)
  • Occasional training and development sessions

Additionally, Trustees are encouraged to attend ‘Open House’ visits across our academies to engage directly with pupils, staff, and the leadership team, gaining valuable insights into how Trust policies are experienced in practice.
