Why We Came Together

On 21st November 2025, senior leaders and governors from across the Greater Manchester Education Trust gathered for a day dedicated to connection, collaboration, and shared vision. This event was more than just a conference – it marked a pivotal moment as we prepare to welcome new Primary schools into our Trust next year.

The event was designed to help us:

  • Build relationships between colleagues from all phases and learn about one-another’s schools
  • Discuss our shared priorities and our collective expertise in how we might begin to address them together
  • Explore the ethos of collaboration, so that our schools can support each other and grow together

As we move into our next phase, these connections will be vital for shaping the Trust so that every child’s needs are understood and met, regardless of their location, challenges or background.

Highlights from the Day

The programme gave Headteachers the chance to introduce their schools, sharing what makes each community unique and celebrating the values that drive their teams. Governors and senior leaders joined in thoughtful conversations about the challenges we face and the opportunities ahead, especially as we prepare to welcome new Primary schools into the Trust.

Throughout the day, participants reflected on what unites us as a strong Trust and discussed practical and ethical working together for the benefit of every child. There was a real sense of pride in our schools’ achievements, and a shared commitment to supporting one another. The event encouraged honest dialogue, fresh ideas and a renewed focus on our shared priorities for the future.

Our Away Day was a powerful reminder that excellence is achieved not just through academic outcomes, but through care, collaboration and a shared commitment to every child’s success. By working as one organisation – where every child is ‘my child’ -we harness our collective strengths and ensure that every member of our Trust community can thrive. I am proud of what we accomplished together, in just a single day, and excited for the journey ahead.
Damian Owen, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

What Attendees Said

Feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees appreciated the chance to connect with colleagues, learn more about each other’s contexts, and discuss shared priorities. Many commented on the inspiring atmosphere and the sense of unity and strong relationships across the Trust, with several noting how valuable it was to have space for honest conversation and practical planning.

Looking Ahead

The Away Day was just the beginning. As we move forward, our focus will be on turning the shared priorities and actions identified during the event into meaningful strategy. We will continue to build on the connections made, working collaboratively across all phases to influence and shape the future of our Trust. By harnessing our collective strengths and maintaining open dialogue, we are committed to ensuring every child in our Trust has the opportunity to thrive.
